Awesome machine! February 20, 2010 Francis L. Valente (New York City) Have had about a year and runs like a clock! Quiet. fast and will not bog down with almost anything! Use with FSX flight Simulator and does very nice with it! There are more poweful I-core 7's but this is a great value! I do not know why it is apparently out of production? I have had zero problems with it, and I like Vista BTW!
Final decision pending December 4, 2009 Charlie Spivey (Richmond VA. U.S.A.) I have been reading through the reviews and there may be some real isues and then again maybe not. I bought a Refurb. When it arrived, the first thing i noticed was that the Hdd dock was nothing but an empty hole. I hooked it up anyway, and there was a problem with the power button. Once on, it booted as far as the Gateway Splash Screen. I called the Support number that was on the invoice which was Revonate Mfg. They do the refurb work. Be prepared to exercise a little patience as you may be on hold for a bit. Once I was in contact with someone, they were forth coming and polite. On the second call, they immediately issued an RMA and off it went. They received it on Tuesday the 24th just before the holiday, so the replacement wasn't shipped until the 2nd of December ( 12:02AM ) I received it today. I haven't as yet hooked it up, but I did notice the following: the Hdd dock was as it should have been and also, not only were ALL the stickers on the thing, but so was the protective film.
Okay, this has been up and running for little over two months now. There were two minor hiccups, The first came at start up. The standby light on the motherboard was lit, but when I hit the switch, it didn't start. I removed the cover to have a look, and all looked good as far as I could see. I had moved some of the wires while in there. Weny I plugged the cord back into the Power Supply, It didn't have the standby light. My first thought was that the PSU was toast. I had another 500w PSU so decided to try that, I had unplugged the connector from the CPU and plugged in the connector from the spare PSU. I started to do the same with the 24 pin ATX connector. The one in there nearly feel into my hands and I realized it had never been firmly plugged in, so did and restored the original CPU connection. When I hit the switch, all was good. The second hiccup was in that the card reader didn't work. I found that the drivers had not been installed and installed them. It still wouldn't open and there were three unconnected wires in the bottom of the case. It turned out they were to the antenna for the wireless connection I there is no wireless card in there, so no issue. Eventually. I took a small screwdriver and kightly pried up on the card reader. It popped then opened as it should. It took a bit more work to get it to open as it should and it takes the right touch to be consistant on opening it. I have used it and it works great.
As for games, Mine are pretty old and some will install and played and others won't. Nothing out of Bethesda ( Oblivion, Fallout 3 ) will work. I suppose they will if you go into Dual core mode in the BiOS, but not really sure. This not unexpected though as most of my games are fairly old. This PC is a horse. I have already changed out the PSU and out in a Corsair TX850w ( not necessary as a TX650w will probably suffice). I also upgraded the memory to 6 Gb of Crucial Ballistix 1600Mhz of memory. I am enjoying this thing a lot, although I still spend time on the emachines i have playing Fallout 3 as well as updating all the stuff.
Great for gaming July 4, 2009 Dianne S. Powell It is great for gaming. It has every thing you need, lots of memory and the best video and sound cards. Recommend it to any gamer
Love it June 28, 2009 Don R. Williams (Panama) I purchased this PC as a refurbished PC. I had been planning on building a PC as I have done with my last 4 PCs. I live in Panama and could not touch a PC of this quality for less than $2,000. So far it has exceeded all of my expectations. I added another 6GB of ram for about $100 and a 1TB drive for another $75.
I love it.
Gateway FX6800-1e Desktop PC June 21, 2009 David Boulton (Lewiston, Idaho) This is my 2nd Gateway. Liked the 1st, so on to the 2nd. Wanted a desktop which could be more than I needed: more RAM, more storage (750g)etc. Only one drawback: the tower top opening for camera cards & USB & sister drawer on front of desktop face would not open initially. When I finally got them to miraculously open...they do not want to latch. So, I leave them open. Other than that, I highly recommend this model, which I'm sure at the time I type this is now officially a dinosaur. DGB
