Incompatible with Windows XP SP3 January 5, 2009 Jordan Steinbaugh (Plano, TX) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the past month or so, I've been in the market for a new gaming mouse to pair with my Razer Exactmat mouse pad. I researched and researched and researched and finally decided upon the Logitech G9 gaming mouse after reading all the glowing reviews on Amazon. I'm extremely unhappy with my purchase. The mouse isn't so bad itself, but Logitech really bombed with Setpoint and Windows XP SP3. They do NOT WORK together. I constantly receive "Found New Hardware" driver messages every time I boot up my computer (with or without Setpoint installed). Not only do I receive these constant messages that are difficult to close out, I'm not even able to use Setpoint to program my keys. I tried programming "double click" functionality to the forward key, back key, and scroll button on all three profiles (general, gaming, productivity), and it works intermittently at best. I emailed Logitech about the problem and they suggested a clean boot procedure. It didn't work, and I still receive the "found new hardware" messages everytime. I finally just uninstalled Setpoint again, unplugged the mouse, and I'm going to return the mouse. It doesn't look like Logitech cares too much about the problem. Awesome!!! January 3, 2009 Eric Joyner (Palatine, IL) This mouse is the best mouse I've ever used! I had problems with the G9-specific SetPoint software not installing, but a topic in the logitech mouse forums provided a fix, and it works fine. A couple things, though: - The included grips are a bit small for my hands, but the ID Grip that logitech sells on its website is a bit bigger than both the included grips, so I prefer to use that one most of the time. - Being able to change the color of the LEDs and being able to store profiles is frankly quite awesome. I enjoy changing the colors of the LEDs on a whim, and the profile feature is handy for quickly switching controls when launching a game. - This mouse is really kind of small. It's about the size of a generic optical mouse, far smaller than the MX518 I used before. Using the ID grip makes the mouse almost as big as the 518, but the mouse takes some getting used to because it's not as comfy as Logitech's other expensive mice. The MX5xx series is much more comfortable. Overall, this mouse is totally awesome. I mean, it definitely feels awesome in your hands even if you don't like it. I didn't like its feel at first, and it's not a good mouse for people who like to feel comfortable when using the computer, but it's excellent for game playing and I've grown to like it a lot. One last note: If you were curious about how it displays the 5 profiles/5 dpi settings with only three bars, it works like this: 1st: [ . . 2nd: [ [ . 3rd: [ [ [ 4th: . [ [ 5th: . . [ The curiosity was kind of eating away at me when I was deciding on buying it, but yeah, that's how it displays the 5 profiles/5 dpi levels.
Would not recommend December 29, 2008 Sherrie K. Sellers (Michigan) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased item for christmas gift after my son used the mouse for about 10 minutes the cursor won't move. Seems to be a problem with this item. As my son researched and found this to be a common problem. Still waiting to hear from seller if this is refundable. Most likely the last time I will purchase from and indivdual seller stick with Amazon. This product does not even rate one star.
Amazing gaming mouse December 28, 2008 X. Wang (New Jersey) I've had the mouse for quite a while now, and it's performed quite admirably. I'm a big fan of FPS's, and I find the extra buttons and the quick responsiveness very helpful. I don't find that much use for the all the DPI settings and profiles, but sometimes it comes in handy in games that sometimes impair you by dropping the sensitivity (e.g. when you're stunned in CoD4 or when you deploy the machine gun in DoD), and all you have to do is increase the DPI and then the sensitivity feels like normal! The interchangeable grips are nice, but if you have big hands, you'll probably just stick to the large one. Similarly, you'll probably just use all the heaviest weight cartridges. My one complaint is the scroll wheel. It has a "free spinning" function like the MX Revolution, but you won't have much opportunity to use it because 1) it has limited application, 2) you'll forget it's there, and 3) it JAMS like a mofo. The first time it happened, it couldn't even complete a full revolution before the jam stopped the wheel. However, when I turn free spinning off, the jam isn't that noticeable. Regardless, I emailed Logitech tech support, and I must say, they are AMAZING. I told them the problem, and they just sent me a NEW one, without requiring me to send the old one back. I ended up giving my friend a more-than-usable G9. However, the new one (my current one) is now clogged too, but I don't care anymore, since it's not that big of a problem.
I like it December 17, 2008 J. Shin I realy like Logitech mice: modern design, works very well. This guy has lots of aspects to personalize. Hope this one lasts longer than my previous Logitech.
