Very good - but with a caveat or two October 12, 2008

First off, this is an excellent sound card with hardware acceleration. It helped not only the general sound, but also the stuttering in some games - plus boost my FPS by about 10-15%.
Now for the caveats - the driver disk is from 2004 (this is a previous gen card from Creative - even though sold as new retail). While for general surfing and music playback those old drivers are fine for XP, you may experience audio problems with newer games. Creative does not truly support these last gen cards anymore - they are too busy pushing their X-Fi series. Driver support it atrocious, their current Soundblaster drivers "break" the CD applications such as mixer, equalizer, EAX console, etc... These are the drivers their automatic update utility on the support website installs. Completely irresponsible of them to post such software without updates for all the utilities that came on the installation CD.
Fortunately on Creative's user forums there is a person who mods the current drivers to include the various missing apps that will work together with the drivers. Something Creative should have done themselves. You have to search a bit to find them in the Soundblaster forum - his name is daniel_k and the modded driver file he posts is called SB Audigy Support Pack 2.18.0001EQ (08/22/2008).
To sum things up, this is a great little sound card, but Creative's support of it is pretty much non-existent and it takes third party mods to make it work properly. Once that's done it works well and the price is certainly right (compared to an X-Fi XtremeGamer).

I have had this sound card about a year now, and again I love my soundblasters. My previous card was the soundblaster MP3 card from 2000, and unfortunately the programs were out of date and would not update to windows xp, so I broke down and got a different soundcard. I really liked the software with my first soundblaster, so I mainly bought this card because of it. The programs are easy to use, and if fact have become simpler in the newer editions. Sound quality is excellent, and make sure not to be to cheap on speakers, or you really waste the value of the card. I'm sure there are more expensive models and brand for people who do tons of work/recording etc with their computers, but this is the best value for building most family computers, and it is silly to waste more money on a card if you get everything you need here. Durability and reliability is unmatched for this brand, many of my friends have soundblasters over the years, an no complaints. SO I strongly recommend this card for the overall value and performance. The software is worth the small investment.

This is a much better sound card over the "SB Live! 24-bit". With EAX 4.0 and CMSS 2 along with the standard graphic equalizer and bass boost options your pc audio will sound loud, powerful and accurate. I hook my pc up to my stereo with a belkin cable splitter so this card plus my hi-fi stereo system equals some really good sounding mp3, cd and video games.

I recently upgraded my computer speaker system to 5.1 and needed to upgrade my sound card to be able to handle new system. This card worked like a magic.
1. The installation was a snap. I just opened my computer plugged the sound card into PCI slot, closed it, turned computer back on and then run the installation CD and I WAS DONE.
2. The sound quality is very impressive for the mid-range product. (...)
3. I like to listen to my music collection on my computer and I was amazed and how good the upgraded system sounds. Let me remind you that this is mid-range product and if you are a true audiophile you may need to step up a notch but for us regular folks this is as good as it gets.
4. I do not play computer games and so cannot issue opinion on how well that will works.

I have a deall 8400 and this card sounded great when I first installed it. Then for no particular reason it stopped working. Nothing. None of the troubleshooting pages at creative were of the least bit of help. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything. No results. Don't buy.
