5 out of 5 stars Beautiful graphics. Worth the money.   December 30, 2008
James K. R. Mckee
I bought this because the GTX was too expensive. I don't regret it all.

Only one game brings anxiety to this card, and thats Crysis (from the makers of Farcry). With this card (and an ample supply of ram) I can run Crysis on high settings (very high being the highest, and next highest setting), and the framerate holds up pretty well around 30 frames per second without anti-aliasing on 1280x1048 (not sure if thats the exact resolution, too lazy to check). It supports dx10, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Because the art and graphics of Crysis were given so much stifling attention, no other game currently on the market will outdo it for quite some time. At this point, I feel like this card may be the only thing gamers need for the next 5 years to run things on max settings (or reasonably high settings at least). If that bothers you and you must run crysis on full settings, I'd spend a little more on a higher end card.

5 out of 5 stars Great video card for Folding@Home GPU   December 23, 2008
O. Flores (Costa Rica)
Back in August I was sold on Folding@Home project and started donating CPU time and electricity. My machine was running 24x7 and everything went smooth. I escalated position in the donor scale very quickly thanks to the processing capabilities of an NVIDIA 9800GX2 and a quad core CPU. A month passed by and I was surprised by the increase in my power bill. I still wanted to contribute, but I did not like the idea of spending a little fortune in utility services. I stopped folding in my Gaming machine and started looking for a solution.

My second PC has a nice 2.6GHz dual core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 40GB hard disk, on-board video and 500W power supply. This machine is my Internet/download station and it would became perfect for folding at home PC after upgrading it with a new GPU.

To succeed I need a GPU (NVIDIA/ATI) that would give the most Folging@Home points for the power. After a little research I discovered that the cheapest and really powerful to use was a NVIDIA 8800GT. It has the G92 core, it uses only one 6 pin PCIe power and in Amazon this XLR8 had the best price around. ATI solutions are great video cards, but are not optimized for F@H number crunching.

Right now I'm running a couple of F@H clients, an NVIDIA GPU and a single tread CPU one. My contribution to this great project is still high, but my electricity bill was reduced.
