| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Introducing a revolutionary new way to say hello. iSight delivers picture perfect video, crystal clear audio and an innovative design that makes video conferencing over the Internet as natural as face-to-face conversation. Families can stay in touch from thousands of miles away. Students can hang out and talk with their friends like they were in the same room. And business travelers can tuck their kids in to bed from the other side of the world. It's the next best thing to being there.

iSight webcam December 12, 2008 A. Lewis (Atlanta, GA United States) The iSight webcam is an excellent product for personal viewing. Clipping it to a laptop lid is a bit worrisome both for possible tapping on table when lid is closed and for firmly staying put. I suggest a separate, stable holder for it; a webcam with a shorter physical length would have been an improvement.
Still a great choice for legacy Mac users November 2, 2008 B. Maestas (Brooklyn, NY, USA) Let me first say that I'm taken aback by the outrageous prices being asked by private sellers here for new, unopened units. For something that originally retailed for $149, a $490+ asking price is a bit much. Sure, it's no longer in production and is basically a collectible item now but still... I considered buying a used one here but decided to slug it out on the bay instead and found a pristine one for about half the price of the original new selling price and it included all original parts and packaging. I am a legacy PPC user and my machine is so old that it only supports USB 1.1. As such, my choices are very limited. There are a few firewire units still being made that are compatible but the form factor and mounting options kept me coming back to the iSight. I have tried some of the other compatible units but they all fell short in some way, be it integrated audio, picture quality or again, the mounting options. After receiving my unit and using it for a few weeks now, I can say that I'm happy with my decision. Using Ecamm software's iGlasses with the iSight solves its color balance and low-light problems. The only thing I wish they had incorporated was a manual/auto-focus switching mechanism. Other than that, I can't complain and getting a used iSight WAY after the fact has breathed new life into this old dinosaur. For me, the iSight is still a very good camera for the PPC (and especially pre-USB 2.0) user.
Wonderful, but no longer available June 12, 2008 esanta (San Jose, CA USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Would you believe there's an inexpensive substitute available from... Microsoft? The Xbox 360 Live Vision Camera is natively compatible with OSX 10.4.9 and up (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_Live_Vision_Camera) The Live Vision Camera is not as beautiful and sophisticated as the iSight. It doesn't have autofocus (you focus it manually by turning the lens barrel) or a shutter to prevent unwanted video spying (instead a green ring glows around the lens when the camera is on). Still, the picture quality is excellent, the camera is much smaller, convenient and portable than the original iSight, and you can't beat the price. A great alternative to the iSight now that it is no longer manufactured.
Very nice August 25, 2007 Gringras (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
But what else would you expect from Apple? I plugged it in and followed the onscreen direction. Within two minutes, I was looking at my picture on the monitor. Awesome!
Amazing! July 18, 2007 Susan Askanase 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The iSight camera gives a crystal clear image- so clear, in fact, that I decided I needed to make myself presentable before our next conference! It runs smoothly - no jerking, & within milliseconds of real time. I use this w/SKYPE to talk w/my children & grandchildren in Israel. We feel like we are in the same room. It is easy to set up, & I hightly recommend it.
