Unreliable: On third board in less than 6 months January 1, 2009

I'm on my third P5E Deluxe board in 5 months in a computer build for a friend. The first board was DOA. The second replacement board worked fine until a week ago when it stopped posting. It is now being processed as an RMA with Asus. From reading other reviews on Newegg and TigerDirect, it looks like many other users are experiencing the same problems with these boards dying inexplicably.
The X48 chipset is great, and the best thing about these boards is their ability to handle crossfire rigs with dual 16x PCIe rails. However, this particular board is very prone to problems. When it works, it works really well. However, because of its high fail rate, I would not recommend getting one. Spend a bit more and get the excellent ASUS Rampage Formula. It is more reliable and among the best X48 boards on the market.
Conclusions:
1. Unreliable board
2. Great when working
3. Asus RMA process takes a lot of time. 3 weeks + for a return to be
turned around and a replacement board shipped.
4. Why risk it? Get something with a better track record.
